TO MARS (HILL CHURCH) AND BACK

THE TRAVELING PAINT PARTY

Last week Marnée's Studio ventured into new territory by hosting an on-site paint party for women at Mars Hill Church in Mobile, Alabama. Not only was this our first paint party we traveled to, but it was also our largest painting event by far with 50 women in attendance (and a waiting list in the wings)! The coordinator (Bekki Buckley) wittily donned this a "Paint & Praise" event. They aimed to use creativity to strengthen fellowship and add a splash of excitement and color into their practice of faith.
DEVELOPING THE PROJECT
As with any of our private events, I worked closely with Bekki and her team to create a painting project that reflected the "Paint & Praise" theme in an eye-catching way. Once the goals of the event were established, I asked Bekki to send me pictures of inspiration (from Marnée's Studio project ideas, Pinterest, or other sources) so that I could visualize colors and subjects that would reinforce the goals and get the gals pumped to paint.
I've personally always been inspired by the beautiful architecture and stained glass church structures boast, so I opted for a brightly colored church painting with stained glass embellished with mixed media (gold leaf).

PUMPED TO PAINT

After eating dinner, the Mars Hill Church gals were definitely pumped to paint! Some guests were intimidated as they sat down to their pre-sketched canvases and sat poised with brush in hand. With encouragement and guidance from the Marnée's Studio team, however, everyone dove in and created churches that reflected their unique tastes and preferences. We continuously circled the room answering questions, offering help and even the occasional condolences. By the end, it was safe to say that everyone had a great time.

We also offered a new add-on service at this event too. Since we used metallic and bright colors for this project, we thought that a nice coat of resin (thick glossy varnish) would add a lot to the piece. I also had some gorgeous dark blue depression glass that we resined to the paintings where the stained glass was.

For a small additional fee, guests that wanted resin left their paintings with us to varnish and dry overnight. We plan on offering this add-on option on a regular basis for our private paint parties (on and off site) as well as our scheduled paint parties.

WHERE THE PATH MAY LEAD US...

Given this great opportunity and experience, Marnée's Studio decided to make traveling paint and creative parties a permanent part of our service selection. We'd love to work with more churches and re-create this "Paint & Praise" event. We'd also love to hear from new clients interested in us hosting a paint party for your next occasion at your location (or ours).
